TRUE PASSION HAS NO LIMITATION FOR THE BEAMISH BROTHERS

March 23, 2019, by Notes by Tine

“For us, it wasn't so much a decision to start work in the music industry… Music is something that we've always known so it just made a lot of sense to commit to it”

Jeremy Beamish (19) and Ben Beamish (21) are two talented Australian brothers who are behind the powerful and silvery vocals of an iconic duo with their songs DecemberDon’t Flatter Yourself and their latest single Black Gasoline with Mark Mendy, under Soave Records, that accumulated up to 100,000 streams on Spotify in just 10 Days.

They spent their childhood in Tweed Heads, Australia and have always been interested in playing instruments and into writing and singing songs as well. Their passion for music fuelled them up into pursuing the music industry and so they decided to try full time as singer-songwriters. With their burgeoning supporters, they continued to rise into 2019, when they changed their name to The Beamish Brothers.

The rising duo has accomplished masses at a young age as they received the 2018 Gill Reese Young Musician Award at the National Folk Festival, performed in both TV and radio, achieved over 6 million streams on collaborative singles and had a three month street tour in Spain and US in 2017. The brothers are set to release their debut single in March and their EP later in the year.

What drew you into the music industry? How did it all start?
For us, it wasn't so much a decision to start work in the music industry. We'd both been writing, singing and playing instruments since we were kids together and separately. Our career as artists intensified very gradually until 2017 when we decided to try music full time as singer-songwriters. Music is something that we've always known so it just made a lot of sense to commit to it.

You have played for several shows already, have you ever dealt with performance anxiety? How was the experience?
We've definitely felt nervous before performing. It's never a pleasant feeling but for us, that anxiety dissolves as soon as we're on stage. These days since we've performed so much, we're less nervous about the performance than we are about getting there on time, remembering all of our equipment and all the logistical issues involved in a show!

Who are you inspired by?
We both have quite different musical inspirations. For Ben, he's really inspired by intelligent pop writing and interesting production - Ed Sheeran, Dylan Joel, Noah Kahan, Flume and Chet Faker are big ones. For me (Jeremy), I listen to a lot of soul and RnB music so I draw a lot of inspiration from artists like Hozier, Jessie J, Yebba, Alessia Cara, H.E.R., and Daniel Caesar.

Do you write your own music? Can you share us your creative process?
We sure do! We approach every song pretty differently. Generally if we're writing together, one of us will come along with an idea and we develop it together. Sometimes one of us will have an almost finished song and other times, we start from scratch together. Our songs are derived from so many unique experiences and emotions so each one develops in its own way.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Least favorite? Why?
It's hard to pick one favourite part but it would probably be the feeling of having a crowd sing along to our lyrics. That is still very surreal. But the least favourite part is having to do so much driving!

"Share your music with your friends and family, put yourself out there, don't be afraid to make mistakes "

They both know that their hearts belong to music and believed in their talents. Without settling in any boundaries, they put themselves out there consuming every ounce of their passion and determination to come up with the best music. There is a saying from Donovan Bailey that says “Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice and above all don’t let anyone limit your dreams”. Remind yourself that there is nothing far more essential than for you to cast off your own and/or anyone’s limitations to achieve greater goals. Believe in what you can do throughout the process and you will definitely feel more positive about yourself and your ability to deal with whatever happens to you. If you want to go somewhere else, it is absolutely up to you to make decisions that will eventually lead you there. Anything is possible!
